Natalie Portman (born Neta-Lee Hershlag; June 9, 1981) is an Israeli-born American actress. She has starred in a variety of films, including the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Black Swan, and V for Vendetta. A dual citizen of Israel and the United States, Portman was born in Jerusalem. She began her acting career at the age of 10, appearing in the Off-Broadway play Ruthless! and making her film debut in Luc Besson's Léon: The Professional (1994). Portman's breakthrough role came in 1999 when she was cast as Padmé Amidala in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. She reprised the role in the sequels Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005). 

In addition to her work in blockbuster films, Portman has also starred in a number of critically acclaimed independent films, including Closer (2004), V for Vendetta (2006), and Black Swan (2010). For her performance in Black Swan, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. 

Portman is a Harvard graduate and a vocal advocate for social justice. She is a vegan and has been involved in a number of animal rights campaigns. She is also a supporter of the Time's Up movement and has spoken out against sexual harassment and assault.

Portman is a talented and versatile actress who has starred in a wide range of films. She is a role model for many young women and is an inspiration to millions of people around the world.
