Usain St. Leo Bolt OJ (born 21 August 1986) is a retired Jamaican sprinter, widely regarded as the greatest sprinter of all time, and the fastest person ever recorded. He is the world record holder in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4 × 100 metres relay. Bolt is the only sprinter to win consecutive gold medals in the 100 m, 200 m, and 4 × 100 m relay at three consecutive Olympic Games (2008, 2012, and 2016). He has won a total of eight Olympic gold medals and 19 world championship medals, including 11 gold.
Bolt was born in Sherwood Content, Trelawny, Jamaica. He began his sprinting career in 2001, and quickly rose through the ranks of Jamaican sprinting. In 2002, he won the 200 m gold medal at the World Junior Championships in Athletics. In 2004, he made his Olympic debut at the Athens Olympics, where he reached the semi-finals of the 200 m.
Bolt's breakthrough came in 2007, when he won the 200 m gold medal at the World Championships in Athletics in Osaka, Japan. He set a new world record of 19.75 seconds in the final, becoming the youngest person to ever hold the world record in the event.
In 2008, Bolt won the 100 m, 200 m, and 4 × 100 m relay gold medals at the Beijing Olympics. He set new world records in the 100 m (9.69 seconds) and 200 m (19.30 seconds). Bolt's performance in Beijing was widely regarded as one of the greatest athletic achievements of all time.
Bolt defended his Olympic titles in the 100 m, 200 m, and 4 × 100 m relay at the 2012 London Olympics. He set a new world record in the 100 m (9.58 seconds), which is still the current world record. Bolt's performance in London was even more impressive than his performance in Beijing, as he faced a stronger field of competitors.
Bolt again defended his Olympic titles in the 100 m, 200 m, and 4 × 100 m relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He became the first person to win three consecutive gold medals in the 100 m, 200 m, and 4 × 100 m relay at three consecutive Olympic Games.
Bolt retired from sprinting in 2017. He is widely regarded as the greatest sprinter of all time, and his achievements are unlikely to be ever surpassed.
